BOOK SUMMARY
"Pivot: A Practical Guide for the Transition from Career Woman to Full-Time Mom” navigates the complex and often conflicting emotions of women facing the decision to leave their careers and embrace full-time motherhood. Kim Patten, drawing from her own experience of transitioning from a demanding career to staying home with her children—and achieving financial freedom—offers a compassionate and practical guide—the book she wishes she had—for women at this crossroads. Kim's journey is deeply personal, marked by her initial determination not to follow in her stay-at-home mother's footsteps. Yet, after adopting her first child, and even more strongly after the birth of her second, she experienced an unexpected pull towards motherhood, a desire to be more present in her children's lives. This internal conflict, although one of the scariest decisions she ever made, now leads her to wish she had made it sooner. Kim's expertise in personal finance, coupled with her own experience becoming debt-free, gives her a unique understanding of the financial anxieties women face during this transition. Pivot is also a workbook designed to help women navigate these challenges. It delves into the emotional journey of self-discovery, helping women understand their motivations, overcome fears, and redefine their identity beyond their professional roles. It offers practical tools and exercises for preparing for the transition, including financial planning, building a support network, and adjusting to new routines. More than just a guide to leaving the workforce, Pivot empowers women to embrace their authentic selves, find joy and purpose in motherhood, and ultimately create a life they won't regret – whether that means returning to a career later or finding fulfillment in other avenues. It's a book about choices, self-reflection, and the courage to pivot towards a life that aligns with one's truest values.
